Palestinian Foreign Minister Shaheen discussed human rights with Slovak officials
Bratislava, February 18 (Hibya) – Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen held meetings in Slovakia, addressing human rights, the situation of children in Gaza, and the two-state solution.
As part of her visit to Slovakia, Foreign Minister Shaheen met with Slovakia’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Robert Dobrovodsky. During the meeting, the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories was discussed.
Shaheen drew particular attention to the humanitarian conditions faced by children in the Gaza Strip, stating that “protecting Palestinian children is an urgent priority.” The parties also evaluated existing international mechanisms aimed at strengthening the protection of human rights in Palestine. Shaheen emphasized that respect for human rights law is not a political choice, but a moral and legal obligation toward Palestinians.
Shaheen also met with Marian Kery, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Slovak Parliament. The meeting addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, obstacles to the entry of aid, and violations of the ceasefire. Developments in the West Bank and Jerusalem, practices contrary to international law, and settlement and annexation plans were also discussed.
Kery expressed concern over serious human rights violations and reiterated Slovakia’s support for the two-state solution and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
