Palestine welcomes resolutions adopted by the UN
Ramallah, December 16 (Hibya) – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the adoption by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly of two resolutions concerning the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and their permanent sovereignty over natural resources.
In a statement, the ministry said it welcomed the General Assembly’s adoption of the two important resolutions.
The statement noted that the first resolution reaffirms the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“The resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority reflecting broad international consensus on the justice of the Palestinian cause. A total of 164 countries voted in favor, 8 voted against, and 9 abstained,” the statement said.
The statement added that the second resolution, entitled “Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan,” was also adopted by a large majority, with 156 votes in favor, 8 against, and 10 abstentions.
