Merz: Peace in Ukraine will not happen overnight
Geneva, 24 November (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that “some issues have become clearer” during the Geneva talks, but added that “we also know that peace in Ukraine will not happen overnight.”
Merz also stated that, considering the implications for European security, Europe must be consulted and give its approval regarding the peace plan for Ukraine, and he called on Russia to come to the table and participate more directly in the negotiations.
Merz said, “It is important for us to recognize that there cannot be a peace plan for Ukraine if Europe does not approve matters that affect European interests and European sovereignty.”
