Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni issued a message on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks carried out in the United States on September 11, 2001. Meloni said the attacks targeted not only the heart of the United States but the entire free world, adding that the free world responded at the time with unity and determination.

Meloni said: “September 11. Twenty-five years ago, terrorism attacked not only the heart of the United States, but the entire free world.” She said September 11 serves as a reminder that democracy and security are not achievements that can be taken for granted, but fundamental pillars of civilization that must be protected.

Meloni said Italy would continue to stand alongside its allies in the fight against terrorism: “In defense of the values that unite our nations, Italy has stood and will continue to stand alongside its allies in the fight against terrorism.” Commemorating those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks and their families, Meloni said: “We will not forget.”
