Meloni reacts to release decision in Switzerland
Rome, January 24 (Hibya) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reacted to the decision by the Coercive Measures Court operating in the Swiss city of Sion to release Jacques Moretti.
Prime Minister Meloni stated that Italy’s Ambassador to Bern, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, had been instructed to immediately contact the Prosecutor General of the Canton of Valais, Beatrice Pilloud, and convey the Italian government’s deep reaction to the decision. Meloni stressed that the ruling is unacceptable given the seriousness of the crime, the risk of flight and the possibility of tampering with evidence, noting that it has caused renewed distress for the families of those who lost their lives in the Crans-Montana tragedy as well as for those still receiving treatment in hospital.
Emphasizing that Italy strongly voices its demand for truth and justice, Meloni called for steps to be taken that take into account the pain and expectations of the families.
Meloni also announced that, together with Foreign Minister Tajani, she had decided to recall Italy’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Cornado, to Rome in order to determine additional measures.
