Prime Minister Meloni announced that at the Council of Europe’s Conference of Ministers of Justice held in Strasbourg, the 27 member states adopted a joint declaration on the European Convention on Human Rights.

Meloni emphasized that the declaration highlights the need for the Convention’s framework to effectively address today’s migration and security challenges.

“After significantly strengthening the external dimension of the EU’s migration policies, launching a fruitful debate on innovative solutions, and placing migration at the center of our G7 Presidency, I am pleased that Italy is now taking on an important and proactive role within the Council of Europe on migration and security,” she said.

Meloni added: “Twenty-seven countries representing the majority of Council of Europe member states supported the joint declaration prepared by Italy and Denmark, stressing the need to adapt the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights to the complexities of the modern world.”

She stated that Italy and Denmark are determined to play a leading role in ensuring effective governance.
