Meloni: If this is democracy, we have a problem
Rome, April 25 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticized the incidents during April 25 demonstrations, stating that scenes contrary to democratic values had emerged.
Italian Prime Minister Meloni made assessments regarding incidents that occurred during some demonstrations held on the occasion of April 25 Liberation Day.
Meloni harshly criticized the events that took place during celebrations that should have been centered on freedom and democracy.
In her statement, she said: “Let’s summarize. During some demonstrations organized for April 25—demonstrations that should celebrate freedom against all forms of oppression—there were attacks on those carrying the Ukrainian flag.”
Meloni also described the prevention of an elderly person from participating in the demonstration as “shameful” and stated that democratically elected mayors were protested and insulted.
She added that memorial works dedicated to the Foibe victims were damaged and that the Jewish Brigade was targeted during the procession, saying: “If these are the people who claim to defend freedom and democracy, then I think we have a problem.”
