Macron: Roudy made equality between women and men a requirement of the Republic
Paris, August 18 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to former minister and women's rights advocate Yvette Roudy following her death.
Macron said Roudy fought to make equality between women and men an effective right and a requirement of the Republic. “A woman of conviction and a fighter, Yvette Roudy made equality between women and men an effective right and a requirement of the Republic,” he said.
Macron noted that Roudy contributed to the recognition of March 8 in France as International Women's Day, secured social security coverage for abortion rights and played a role in drafting the July 13, 1983 law on professional equality. “Her achievements live on,” he said.
Macron concluded his statement by saying, “It is the duty of all of us to carry her fight for equality even further.”
