Lula: The poorest should not bear the burden of cuts
Brasilia, October 20 (Hibya) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called on Flavio Bolsonaro to explain how potential budget cuts would be handled. Lula stressed the need to protect social assistance, educational support and access to medicines for those in need.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva argued in a statement that budget cuts disproportionately affect the poorest segments of society and called on Flavio Bolsonaro to provide an explanation.
Lula stated that while billions of dollars in cuts are discussed, the burden ultimately falls on the poor when it comes time to pay. He questioned where the cuts would be made, referring to the Bolsa Familia social assistance program, the Pé-de-Meia program that supports young people in continuing their education, and access to medicines for those in need.
Emphasizing the need to protect the rights of workers, students and those who have dedicated years of service to the country, Lula urged voters to cast their ballots and defend their hard-won gains.
