Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva described as a historic development the participation of the first female soldiers to join the Brazilian Army in the ranks of the units during a military parade held as part of Soldier’s Day celebrations.

Lula said the scene showed that Brazil does not accept obstacles when it comes to sovereignty, stating, “Brazilian women are ready to defend our country.”

Emphasizing that prioritizing defense is a strategic decision, Lula said protecting Brazil’s mineral resources, forests, borders and maritime coasts is important for the country’s sovereignty.

Lula said Brazil is making strong investments in defense to guarantee peace and show the world that it is an independent country that determines its own destiny.

Stating that sovereignty is built through preparedness, science and domestic industrial capacity, Lula announced that investments are being made in Brazil’s Defense Industrial Base under the New PAC.

Lula said the investments would directly support the production of ships, submarines, fighter jets and cargo aircraft, adding that investment in the defense industry would stimulate the country’s leading industries, boost technology production and develop innovation centers.

Lula also emphasized that these investments would contribute to workers’ incomes while creating skilled employment in the defense sector.
