European Union (EU) Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib warned about the rights violations particularly faced by women and girls in South Sudan.

Emphasizing the scale of forced displacement in the region, Lahbib stated: "Violence is increasing in South Sudan, and women and girls are once again paying the highest price: 104 people are forced to flee their homes every hour."

Pointing to the prevalence of gender-based violence, Lahbib said: "2 out of every 3 women are subjected to gender-based violence. The protection of women and girls must always and everywhere be a priority."
