EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that the amendment in question represents an important step for Montenegro on its path toward the European Union.

European Commission member responsible for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Marta Kos commented on the Montenegrin Parliament's adoption by a large majority of the constitutional amendment strengthening the independence of the judiciary and the Central Bank.

Kos said the decision marked significant progress in Montenegro's European journey, stating, “This is another major step by Montenegro on its European path.”

Kos noted that the decision, which points to broad consensus in Montenegro, is also an important step toward closing the fundamental chapters in the European Union accession process. “This shows broad consensus and is an important step toward closing the fundamental chapters, which are extremely important,” she said.
