Kallas: Today we commemorate six million Jews, Roma and Sinti, and countless innocent people
Brussels, January 27 (Hibya) – EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas warned against rising antisemitism, recalling that the Holocaust was the darkest period in human history.
European Commission Vice-President Kallas said in a statement marking Holocaust Remembrance Day that the Holocaust represents the darkest chapter in human history. Kallas said, “Today we commemorate six million Jews, Roma and Sinti, and countless innocent people.”
Kallas noted that although 81 years have passed since the end of World War II, antisemitism worldwide has reached its highest levels since the period of the Shoah. She said antisemitism has once again become visible, from terrorist attacks at Bondi Beach to harassment, vandalism and threats against Jewish communities.
Kallas said Holocaust Remembrance Day is not only about honoring the victims, but also serves as a warning to the living about where hatred, denial and indifference can lead humanity.
