Israeli forces launch deadly attacks on Syria and Lebanon
Stockholm, July 16 (Hibya) – Twelve people were killed yesterday in an Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley. This was the deadliest attack since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah last November.
The attacks targeted three locations, and the Israeli military stated they were aiming at Hezbollah fighters. Seven Syrian workers and five Lebanese workers were killed.
The government did not disclose the identities of the Lebanese victims, but Al Jazeera reported, citing sources, that they were Hezbollah fighters.
The Israeli Defense Minister stated that the Israeli government plans to increase pressure on the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah.
The Israeli military also carried out airstrikes on the Syrian city of Suwayda, where government forces recently intervened in deadly clashes between Druze and Bedouins that left over 100 dead. The Israeli military claimed it seeks to protect Druze from Syrian government oppression.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks and asserted that Syria reserves the right to self-defense. It stated that both soldiers and civilians were killed in the attacks, though no casualty numbers were provided.
In separate Israeli airstrikes on Gaza yesterday, at least 54 people were killed, including 42 in Gaza City.
