Israel criticizes UNESCO over cultural heritage
Jerusalem, July 20 (Hibya) – Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the use of cultural heritage for political purposes in a statement issued ahead of the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, to be held in Busan, South Korea.

The ministry claimed that Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon is being used by Hezbollah for military purposes and that UNESCO has remained silent on the matter. It also argued that the Palestinian Authority's initiative concerning the ancient city of Sebastia is politically motivated, calling on members of the World Heritage Committee to reject unilateral political initiatives.
