Indonesia: 8 dead, 82 missing in landslide
Stockholm, January 24 (Hibya) – A landslide caused by heavy rainfall on Indonesia’s Java Island has left eight people dead and 82 missing.
So far, joint search and rescue teams continue searching for 82 people believed to have been buried by the landslide that occurred on the slopes of Mount Burangrang in the Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, West Java Province.
The disaster occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning following heavy rainfall in the area. West Java Provincial Secretary Herman Suryatman said that search operations are being carried out manually with the assistance of joint personnel and K9 tracking dogs.
The landslide occurred at around 3 a.m. local time west of the city of Bandung in West Java Province.
