IDF launches investigation into image from southern Lebanon
Jerusalem, April 20 (Hibya) – The Israeli army (IDF) announced it has launched an investigation into an image showing a soldier damaging a religious symbol, stating that the incident is under review and disciplinary action will be taken.
The IDF announced that it has completed an initial review of the image, which reportedly shows a soldier damaging a Christian symbol.
The statement said the soldier in the image was identified as an IDF personnel serving in southern Lebanon, emphasizing that the act is inconsistent with the institution’s values and describing the incident as “serious.”
It was noted that the incident is being investigated by the Northern Command and is being handled within the chain of command, with appropriate disciplinary measures to be taken based on the findings.
The IDF also said efforts are underway to support the local community in restoring the religious symbol to its place.
The statement emphasized that while the Israeli army is conducting operations against Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, it has no intention of harming civilian infrastructure or religious sites and symbols.
