IAEA: Iran offered to keep uranium below the purity level required for a bomb
Vienna, November 21 (Hibya) - UN International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi confirmed that Iran proposed to keep its stockpile of uranium enriched up to 60% below the purity level required to make a nuclear bomb, amid threats of renewed European sanctions over Tehran's nuclear activities.
Grossi stated in Vienna, "I think this is... a concrete step in the right direction. There is a fact confirmed by us. This is the first time Iran has agreed to take a different path," he said.
This move, negotiated by Grossi during his visit to Tehran last week with Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, was designed to prevent European diplomats from requesting a comprehensive report from the IAEA board this week on Iran's compliance, which could lead to the lifting of UN sanctions.
The agreement covering Iran's nuclear activities officially ends in September, 10 years after it was negotiated in 2015.
