Guterres emphasized that a planet on fire cannot be saved with a fire hose fueled by fossil fuels and added:
"We must accelerate a just and equitable transition to renewable energy. The science is clear: the 1.5 degrees Celsius warming limit is only possible if we finally stop burning fossil fuels. Not reduce. Gradually stop."
