Guterres: Housing is a human right and a fundamental necessity for human dignity
New York, May 18 (Hibya)- United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres drew attention to the global housing crisis, stating that housing must be placed at the center of sustainable development.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pointed out in his statement that billions of people live in inadequate housing conditions and called on the international community to take action.
Stating that housing is a fundamental right, Guterres said, “Housing is a human right and a fundamental necessity for human dignity.”
Sharing the scale of the global housing crisis, Guterres stated, “Yet nearly three billion people live in inadequate housing, mostly in informal settlements and slum areas.”
Presenting his vision for future solutions, Guterres said, “We must place the housing issue at the center of sustainable development; we must leave no one behind.”
