German Chancellor Merz: We must defend our democracy and rule of law every day
Berlin, May 23 (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz highlighted growing threats to the country’s core values, stressing the need to protect democracy and the rule of law.
Merz stated that the Basic Law (Grundgesetz) offers Germany a life of freedom, peace, and security, and emphasized the importance of preserving these achievements.
“These values are a source of pride for us,” said Merz, noting that the climate of freedom in Germany is under unprecedented threat both from within and outside the country. “That is why we must fight every day for a strong rule of law and defend our democracy with determination.”
