Fletcher: We are working to expand life-saving aid
New York, January 15 (Hibya) – UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher announced that, following prolonged negotiations, a UN-led delegation delivered humanitarian aid to Sudan’s city of El Fasher this week.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher issued a statement on the humanitarian situation in Sudan’s Darfur region.
Noting that diplomatic efforts to open a humanitarian corridor have yielded results, Fletcher said: “After long negotiations, a UN-led delegation delivered aid to El Fasher this week. This was the first of many missions.”
Stating that operations in the region will be expanded, Fletcher added: “We are working to expand life-saving assistance across Darfur. With safe access and funding, we will achieve this. We thank all our partners who helped make this possible.”
