Chinese state media wrote that Trump should "stop complaining"
Beijing, April 16 (Hibya) - As the two countries continue to spiral into a trade war, China's official state media said the U.S. should "stop complaining about being a victim" after "getting a free ride on the globalization train."
China Daily, the English-language newspaper of the ruling Chinese Communist Party, published an editorial Tuesday night saying that Donald Trump's repeated claims that the U.S. has been "cheated" were "a deception of the American people."
The editorial stated: "The U.S. is not being cheated by anyone. The problem is that the U.S. has been living beyond its means for decades. It consumes more than it produces. To have a higher standard of living than it deserves, it has outsourced its production and borrowed based on its productivity. The U.S. is not being cheated, it is just getting a free ride on the globalization train."
"The U.S. must stop complaining about being a victim of global trade and end its capricious and destructive behavior," it said.
On Wednesday, Beijing announced better-than-expected economic figures, largely due to exporters rushing to ship their goods to the U.S. before tariffs came into effect.
