China: U.S. and Japan should remove the Typhon missile system immediately
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian urged the United States and Japan to dismantle the Typhon medium-range missile system as soon as possible.
Lin Jian called on the U.S. and Japan to promptly remove the Typhon medium-range missile system.
At the regular press briefing, he answered a question regarding the Typhon system the U.S. deployed in Japan as part of a joint military exercise.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction with the development, Lin reiterated China’s firm opposition.
He said the U.S. deployment of the Typhon system in Asian countries harms other states’ legitimate security interests, fuels a regional arms race, heightens the risk of military conflict, and poses serious threats to the region’s strategic security.
Lin stressed that the U.S. and Japan should respect other countries’ security concerns and take concrete steps to play a positive role in regional peace and stability.
He urged the U.S. and Japan to heed regional calls, reverse course, and remove the Typhon system as soon as possible.
Lin also expressed the hope that Japan would learn from its history of occupation, follow a peaceful path, and refrain from moves that undermine neighbors’ trust and damage regional peace and stability.
