It was reported that in 2025 China rose to 10th place in the Global Innovation Index.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the 2025 GII Report. According to the results, Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, the Republic of Korea (South Korea), and Singapore ranked in the top five, while China moved up to 10th, maintaining its leadership among middle-income economies.
The report noted that China continued strong momentum in R&D spending, high-tech exports, and innovation outputs.
It was also stated that a group of middle-income economies—led by China, Türkiye, and India—have steadily climbed the rankings, and that 17 low- and middle-income economies outperformed expectations relative to their development levels.
Statistics show that the R&D growth rate fell to 2.9% in 2024. WIPO projects further slowing in 2025, with the real growth of inflation-affected corporate R&D spending dropping to 1%, far below the 4.6% average of the past decade.
