Stockholm, Dec. 22 (Hibya) – According to authorities, at least 16 people were killed after a passenger bus crashed shortly after midnight on Monday on Indonesia’s main island of Java.
The intercity bus, carrying 34 passengers from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, lost control while entering a curved exit ramp of the Krapyak highway in Semarang, Central Java, hit a concrete barrier and tipped onto its side.
Search and rescue teams said that the force of the impact threw several passengers from their seats, while others were trapped inside the wrecked bus.
Rescue teams found six bodies at the scene, while 10 others died while being taken to hospital or during treatment. Eighteen injured passengers, five of whom are in critical condition, were taken to nearby hospitals.
