Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement on the second phase of the project that will provide a rail connection to Melbourne Airport.

In a post on his social media account, Albanese said the government was delivering the Melbourne Airport rail project and announced that work on the second phase would begin.

Albanese said major construction work for the second phase of the project is planned to begin in 2028, adding that a new railway line and a new station will be built in the Keilor East area.

Albanese also noted that the line will provide a direct connection to the Metro Tunnel and that the project is a step toward enabling trains to reach Melbourne Airport.
