U.S. seizes vessel attempting to break blockade
Washington, February 16 (Hibya) – The U.S. Department of Defense said in a post on X that the U.S. military seized a vessel attempting to bypass President Donald Trump’s blockade on Venezuela.
According to the statement, U.S. forces seized the vessel in the Indian Ocean.
The ministry wrote: "The vessel tried to bypass President Trump’s blockade – it hoped to escape. We tracked it from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, measured the distance, and stopped it."
A video published with the post shows a large group of soldiers boarding a military helicopter and taking off. In the next part of the clip, soldiers are seen moving around inside the seized vessel.
The New York Times previously reported that the seized Panama-flagged vessel, Veronica III, was one of several ships sanctioned by the U.S. for carrying Russian and Iranian oil.
In December, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a "full" blockade on all sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela.
