The United Nations (UN) warned that the child malnutrition crisis in Afghanistan is deepening.

According to a UN post, around 3.7 million children in the country are suffering from wasting. About 1 million of these children are experiencing severe acute malnutrition.

The crisis has reportedly worsened further as nutrition services have closed due to funding cuts. Disruptions to services have limited the support reaching children in efforts to combat malnutrition.

UNICEF called for greater support to protect children and ensure the continuation of life-saving nutrition services.

The UN stressed the need to increase financial support to meet the basic nutritional needs of children in Afghanistan and prevent the current crisis from deepening further.
