Sybiha: For years Iran has been supplying weapons to Russia’s war machine
Kyiv, March 16 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for increased pressure on Russia and joint action against the nuclear threat posed by the Iranian regime during his meeting with the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held an online meeting with the foreign ministers of European Union member states to assess the latest situation in Ukraine and the impact of developments in the Middle East on global security.
Drawing attention to military cooperation between Iran and Russia, Sybiha said, “Countering Iran’s aggressive regime must go hand in hand with increasing pressure on Russia’s aggressive regime. For years Iran has been supplying weapons to Russia’s war machine. Today the Iranian regime poses both a terrorist and a nuclear threat.”
Referring to military achievements on the battlefield and the peace process, Minister Sybiha stated, “In February, Ukraine’s Defense Forces liberated more territory than Russian occupiers managed to seize. Ukraine remains committed to the peace process and is ready for the next round of trilateral negotiations.”
Calling on the EU to take concrete steps regarding sanctions, Sybiha said, “Pressure on Russia must increase and support for Ukraine must grow. I urged my colleagues in the EU to adopt the 20th EU sanctions package without delay. Russia must not benefit from instability in the Middle East.”
