Stubb: The Maduro regime has long been illegitimate
Helsinki, January 4 (Hibya) – Finnish President Alexander Stubb emphasized that the regime of Nicolas Maduro has lost its legitimacy.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb made a statement on the political crisis in Venezuela and Finland’s official stance on the matter.
Criticizing the legitimacy of the Maduro administration, Stubb said: “The Nicolas Maduro regime has long been illegitimate. The 2024 elections were extremely unfair. Finland, as an EU member, has stated this before. The Union has also imposed sanctions on Venezuela.”
Underscoring Finland’s foreign policy principles, Stubb added: “All states have a responsibility to respect and adhere to international law. Preserving this principle is vital to Finland’s interests. It is one of the cornerstones of our foreign policy.”
Pointing to the need for a strategic approach to resolving the current situation, Stubb said: “At present, it is important to support a transition to a democratic government. We are closely monitoring the situation.”
