According to 47news, Gazprom is considering a decision to reduce the number of employees in its central office from 4,100 to 2,500.

This information began circulating within the company last Friday. The proposal was sent in late December by Deputy Chairman of the Board Elena Ilyukhina to Alexey Miller. The proposal states that the number of managers in Gazprom has multiplied over 20 years, and the payroll fund currently amounts to 50 billion rubles annually.

Naturally, the initiative does not belong to the deputy chairman; this is a procedural formalization of Gazprom's decision.

Ilyukhina writes that “the challenges faced by the Gazprom Group” require reducing the time needed for decision preparation, eliminating redundant functions and excessive bureaucratic processes, increasing employee focus on results in key processes, and “optimizing costs at all levels of management and production processes.”

According to Gazprom's report last year, the company incurred a loss of 629 billion rubles in 2023, compared to a profit of 1.23 trillion rubles the previous year. This was the first loss in 25 years. According to the SPARK platform, the company's revenue fell from 6.4 trillion rubles in 2021 to 4.3 trillion rubles in 2024. The company closed last year with a loss of 309 billion rubles. Key milestones: Nord Stream was sabotaged, gas exports were reduced multiple times, gas transit through Ukraine to Europe ended on January 1, and US sanctions were imposed on Gazprom Neft.

The target number of the central office is proposed to be 2,500 employees. The document uses the term “reduction.” As an example, the company Rosatom is mentioned, where the management apparatus includes 1,246 people out of 350,000 employees. Considering that Gazprom has about 500,000 employees, a 40% reduction in managers and senior executives would achieve a similar ratio.
