Greene, one of Trump’s MAGA superstars in U.S. politics, released a video message on social media announcing that she will leave Congress on January 5, 2026.

The Republican lawmaker had been one of Trump’s most loyal defenders in Congress, but her relentless calls to release files related to the incarcerated sex offender Jeffrey Epstein led to a harsh public clash with the president, who has since labeled her a “traitor.”

In her video message, Greene said: “I refuse to be the ‘abused wife’ who hopes everything will simply pass and get better.”

She added: “I do not want the president we all fought for to endure a brutal and hate-filled primary against me. I must fight to win the election, while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.”

Trump, who threatened to back a Republican challenger to unseat Greene, called her resignation “great news for the country” in an interview with ABC News.

Greene was among the strongest advocates for releasing Epstein-related documents — an issue that once united Trump and his base but has now become divisive.

For months, Trump argued that the issue was a distraction fabricated by his political opponents to divert attention from his administration’s achievements.

In her resignation letter, Greene wrote: “Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked, and exploited by wealthy and powerful men should not result in being labeled a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States — the man I fought for.”
