German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made a statement regarding human rights violations in Iran and the regime’s methods of dealing with protesters.

Calling on the Iranian authorities to protect their people, Merz said: “We call on the Iranian authorities to protect their people rather than threaten them. The violence exercised by the regime against its own population is not a sign of strength but of weakness. It must end immediately.”

Emphasizing that international mechanisms will be activated against repression, Chancellor Merz concluded: “To underscore this message, we are working on additional measures within the framework of EU sanctions.”
