Opposition politician Juan Pablo Guanipa abducted in Venezuela
Stockholm, February 9 (Hibya) – Venezuela’s Nobel Peace Prize–winning opposition leader Maria Machado claimed in a post on X that opposition politician Juan Pablo Guanipa has been abducted.
Guanipa had been released on Sunday after spending more than eight months in prison.
According to Machado, Guanipa was abducted in Caracas’s Los Chorros neighborhood just hours after his release.
Machado wrote that Guanipa was taken away by heavily armed individuals in civilian clothing.
“We demand his immediate release,” she said.
Guanipa had been arrested shortly before last May’s parliamentary and regional elections and was accused of planning to sabotage the vote. He was a close ally of the Nobel laureate.
