Meloni: It is unacceptable for ideological pressure to force someone to withdraw from the stage
Rome, February 8 (Hibya) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said regarding artist Andrea Pucci’s withdrawal from Sanremo: “It is troubling that in 2026 an artist gives up performing because of an environment of pressure and hatred.”
Italian Prime Minister Meloni issued a statement on artist Pucci’s decision to withdraw from the Sanremo Festival due to insults and threats directed at him and his family.
Meloni said, “That in 2026 an artist is forced to stop doing his job because of a climate of intimidation and hatred around him is troubling.”
Expressing her solidarity with Pucci, Meloni stated, “I express my solidarity with Andrea Pucci, who decided to withdraw from Sanremo due to insults and threats against him and his family.”
Drawing attention to ideological pressure, Meloni added, “It is unacceptable that ideological pressure reaches the point of forcing someone to withdraw from the stage.”
In her statement, Meloni said, “This situation also reveals the left’s double standards. Those who consider satire—including insults—‘sacred’ when it targets their opponents call for censorship when views they do not share are expressed.”
Assessing the political atmosphere in Italy, Meloni said, “In Italy, the anti-freedom tendency of the left is becoming increasingly alarming.”
