European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said Russian attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea were increasing pressure on global food supplies. Kallas stated that the latest drone attack on a cargo ship off the coast of Romania, which resulted in fatalities, had further escalated tensions.
In a statement shared on social media, Kallas stressed that Russian attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea were unacceptable. She noted that the latest deadly drone strike targeting a cargo ship off the Romanian coast signaled a new escalation in the region and was adding to the pressure on global food supplies.
Kallas said she had spoken with Romanian Foreign Minister Dan Neculaescu the previous day. She explained that they had discussed the deteriorating regional security situation and that both sides continued to maintain close contact.
