Israeli army announces it is "checking" whether Sinwar was killed in Gaza
Stockholm, October 17 (Hibya) - According to Al Jazeera, citing the Israeli army (IDF) and intelligence services, three Hamas figures were killed in a building they targeted, and it is now being checked whether one of them is indeed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Sinwar was chosen as the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Movement after Israel killed Ismail Haniyeh in Iran earlier this year. Al Jazeera emphasized that there is no confirmation, and they have not received any news from the Palestinian Islamic Movement.
According to Al Jazeera, even Israeli military sources say that confirming whether this assassination was successful may take hours, but if it is true, this would be the second Palestinian Islamic Movement leader killed during this war.
On the other hand, the Times of Israel reported that a senior Israeli official stated that there is a "high" probability that one of the three militants killed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza on Thursday was Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
The Times of Israel wrote, "According to reports, officials were highly confident that the body belonged to Sinwar, but final identification was expected to take several hours."
The reports also said that the three bodies were taken for DNA testing and would also undergo dental and fingerprint checks. Israel possesses both Sinwar's fingerprints and dental records from his time in prison.
The report also noted that unverified photos showing the lifeless body of a man resembling Sinwar were circulating on social media.
