Guterres Calls for Restraint from Afghanistan and Pakistan
New York, February 27 (Hibya) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the escalating cross-border conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan following airstrikes in Pakistan's border region, calling on both sides to resort to diplomacy.
According to CCTV, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reported on Thursday that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is closely monitoring the cross-border conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Dujarric added that the Secretary-General urged the parties to comply with international law obligations and ensure the protection of civilians.
The Secretary-General also praised the mediation efforts carried out by some member states in recent months and reiterated his call for the parties to resolve their differences through diplomacy.
The recent clashes in the border areas have been attributed to airstrikes carried out by Pakistan on what it described as "terrorist camps" along the border from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
