Gaza’s Rafah border crossing to reopen next week
Davos, January 22 (Hibya) – Following the “Peace Council” ceremony in Davos, it was announced that Gaza’s Rafah border crossing will reopen next week.
Davos delegates were shown a video message from Ali Shaath, head of the Palestinian technocratic committee, announcing that the border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will reopen next week.
Shaath said: “This is a real step and it marks a new direction.”
He added, however, that much more work remains to be done, and none of it will be easy.
The Rafah crossing was the only crossing not under Israeli control before the war. It has been closed since Israel took control of the Gaza side in May 2024; last October, Israel said it would remain closed “until further notice” to pressure Hamas to return the remains of deceased hostages.
