Costa: Fight against drugs to be strengthened through multi-level cooperation
Brussels, June 19 (Hibya) - European Council President Antonio Costa stated that combating illicit drugs is one of the European Union’s key security priorities and announced that comprehensive cooperation will be enhanced from the local level to the international level.
European Council President Antonio Costa stated that the fight against illicit drugs has a direct impact on the health, security, and public order of European citizens, emphasizing that the issue is among the priority items on the European Council’s agenda.
In his statement, Costa stressed that the fight against drugs should not be carried out only within national borders, but simultaneously at local, national, European, and international levels.
Noting that the European Union is strengthening cooperation in this field, Costa highlighted the importance of partnerships developed with third countries and targeted measures.
Stating that combating drug trafficking has become one of the fundamental pillars of Europe’s security architecture, Costa said, “The EU is stepping up its fight against this threat through stronger coordination, joint operations, and cooperation with international partners.”
Costa’s remarks were addressed within the framework of security, border management, and the fight against organized crime issues on the European Council’s agenda.
