The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Türkiye held an emergency meeting of the Mecca Defense Alliance Strategic Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh on October 5, 2026, to address the security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia.

At the meeting, it was decided to appoint retired Pakistani Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as the first Secretary-General of the Mecca Defense Alliance for a three-year term. The parties wished Nauman Mahmood success in his duties and expressed confidence that he would contribute to the Alliance’s progress and the achievement of its objectives.

The committee also decided to immediately proceed with the practical implementation of collective defense commitments and to take the necessary measures to provide and rapidly deploy the agreed military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia. In this context, the aim was to increase preparedness, military integration and collective capacity to address threats.

The statement emphasized that the security of each party is an integral part of the shared security of the three countries, noting that translating the Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement into practical measures strengthens the credibility of the collective defense commitment and the effectiveness of deterrence.

The parties also reaffirmed their unity and determination to defend their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.
