Christmas concert canceled after Kennedy Center is named after Trump
Washington, Dec. 26 (Hibya) – Chuck Redd, the longtime host of the Kennedy Center’s annual Christmas Eve jazz performance, said he canceled Wednesday’s concert following the board’s decision to rename the facility after both the 35th president and President Donald Trump.
Drummer and vibraphonist Chuck Redd told CNN, “When I saw last Friday that the name change had taken place, I chose to cancel our Kennedy Center Christmas Eve Jazz Concert.”
The cancellation marks the latest reaction following the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts board’s decision last week to rename the institution the “Trump Kennedy Center,” a move that quickly sparked anger and legal concerns among the former president’s family, lawmakers, and visitors to the historic venue.
Hours after the vote, the Washington, D.C. performing arts center updated its website, and the following day a new sign bearing Trump’s name was installed on the building’s facade.
