Bulgaria calls for continued agricultural support
Sofia, October 27 (Hibya) - Bulgaria called for the preservation of support for farmers under the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027 and stable funding for rural development.
Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski outlined his country's priorities for the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting held on October 26, 2026. Minister Abrovski advocated continuing transitional national aid, maintaining support for farmers and establishing a fair system of agricultural payments among member states.
Minister Abrovski emphasized the need to support rose cultivation, which holds symbolic significance for Bulgaria, noting that the sector faces challenges due to shrinking production areas, low purchase prices, high costs and labor shortages. He also highlighted the importance of securing stable funding for rural development policy.
The meeting also addressed more effective use of European Union trade agreements to create new export opportunities in the agricultural and food sectors. Minister Abrovski proposed increasing administrative support for small businesses and supporting export cooperatives that would enable local producers to market their products abroad under shared brands.
