Budrys: Armor and terror failed to break those who chose freedom
Vilnius, January 13 (Hibya) – Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys commemorated the heroism of the Lithuanian people who stood unarmed against Soviet tanks on the night of January 13, 1991, stating that the will for freedom is stronger than armor and terror.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys issued a statement on the anniversary of the January 13 events.
Recalling the resistance, Budrys said: “On the night of January 13, 1991, Lithuanians stood unarmed in front of Soviet tanks. The occupying forces came to crush the independence we had regained and failed. Armor and terror could not break those who chose freedom.”
Emphasizing the will for independence, Minister Budrys concluded: “Freedom proved to be stronger than Soviet violence and oppression. We will never forget those who gave their lives that night. We will never forget why we are free. And we will never give up defending our independence, freedom, and dignity.”
