UN High Commissioner Türk: Modern slavery is increasing
New York, December 2 (Hibya) – United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that slavery must be ended and responses centered on victim rights and justice must be developed.
High Commissioner Türk stated that modern slavery is rising, and that millions of people – from forced labor to debt bondage – are being trapped through pressure and fear.
Noting that technology has given it a new face, Türk said: “To end slavery, we need to develop responses that are centered on victim rights and justice.”
