Protesters Clash with Police in Sofia
Sofia, December 2 (Hibya) – A peaceful protest in Sofia, where tens of thousands of Bulgarians rallied against the government's 2026 draft budget, escalated into violent incidents.
The demonstration, initially calm, grew tense when young crowds began chanting “Resignation,” demanding revisions.
Small groups moved toward the ruling party’s headquarters and threw chairs at buildings and police, heightening the tension.
Footage shows clashes, burning trash containers, and damaged police vehicles.
Days earlier, the government had withdrawn the draft budget following similar protests and pledged to renew dialogue with employers and trade unions.
