Lahbib: Aid must reach those in need without delay
Goma, February 20 (Hibya) - European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib met with AFC/M23 representatives in Goma during a humanitarian mission and called for safe humanitarian corridors for civilians in eastern Congo.
Commissioner Lahbib visited Goma as part of a humanitarian mission. She stated that she held an open and constructive meeting with AFC/M23 representatives to ensure humanitarian access for millions of civilians in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Emphasizing that aid must reach those in need without delay, Lahbib noted that this can only be achieved through safe humanitarian corridors. She underlined the obligation to respect International Humanitarian Law and to protect civilians.
Stating that this responsibility must be shared by all parties in the region, Lahbib said she conveyed the same message in Kinshasa, Bujumbura and Kigali.
Lahbib added that commitments were obtained from all parties, but stressed that what truly matters is the swift and effective implementation of these commitments.
