Ghebreyesus: We are providing support for the Southeast Asia flood disaster
Geneva, 2 December (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that they are providing support to Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia in response to the devastating floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
WHO chief Ghebreyesus made a statement on the unprecedented flood disaster in Southeast Asia triggered by Cyclone Ditwah. He noted that the WHO is in close contact with Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, and that rapid response teams have been deployed to provide the necessary support.
The statement added that disease surveillance has been strengthened in the affected areas and the continuity of essential health services is being ensured. Ghebreyesus offered his deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the disaster and conveyed a message of solidarity to the communities and countries impacted by this tragedy.
